System Of A Down are a heavy metal band from Glendale, California. Formed in 1994, the band’s lineup consists of frontman Serj Tankian, lead guitarist Daron Malakian, bassist Shavo Odadjian and drummer John Dolmayan. System Of A Down released their self-titled debut album in 1998, but their breakout hit came in 2001 when they dropped “Chop Suey!” as the lead single off their sophomore studio set Toxicity, which earned the band their first Grammy nomination and ultimately helped them notch their first No. 1 album on the Billboard 200. Further projects in the quartet’s hard-rocking discography include Steal This Album! (2002) and fellow chart-toppers Mezmerize (2005) and Hypnotize (2005). In 2020, the band unveiled the double A-side “Protect the Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz” — their first release in 15 years — to raise awareness and more than $600,000 for the Armenia Fund amid the Second Nagorno-Karabakh War. In 2025, they embarked on a series of co-headlining stadium dates with the Korn, Avenged Sevenfold and Deftones. In 2027, System Of A Down will perform for the first time ever at Pasadena’s Rose Bowl stadium with special guest Pierce The Veil.
